Android vs. iOS: Which Platform to Build for First
January 10, 2017Top 5 Business Apps on Google Play
The Google Play Store has a mind-boggling number of apps to choose from, including a large number of business and productivity tools. This list focuses on five essential business apps that you will find on Google Play and that almost everyone in business will benefit from using.
Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is a software application that needs no introduction. The version available on the Google Play Store is free, and it’s just as easy to use and effective as the desktop version. There are other free alternatives, such as Google Docs and Google Sheets, as well as paid-for alternatives, but Microsoft Office leads the way.
Evernote

The easiest way to describe Evernote is that it’s a note-taking app. It is so much more than this simple description though. The notes you create can have images, videos, or links you find on the web. In fact, you can save whole webpages as notes so you can read them later. You can also collaborate with colleagues and create lists while everything syncs back to the version of Evernote on your computer. OneNote from Microsoft is a popular alternative, but Evernote has the edge.
Asana

Asana is a productivity tool that lets you manage projects, to-do lists, and tasks. There are alternatives, like Basecamp and Trello, but Asana makes it onto this list because of its simplicity. The app doesn’t get in the way—it simply makes collaboration easier, more effective, and much less confusing. If you have a small team, you can use it for free; in fact, you might start wondering how you ever got anything done without it.
Dropbox

Dropbox is a popular cloud storage service that has a lot of competition—Google Drive being the most notable example on the Google Play Store. After all, Drive is a Google product , so there is a significant level of integration with the other Google services you might use (i.e., Gmail or the photo app on your Android phone). Dropbox, however, benefits from being one of the first to move into the cloud storage market, and it has always had simple, effective, and time-saving features.
Skype

Skype lets you communicate via phone, video call, or instant message with anyone in the world over the Internet, and it is free to use when you are communicating with other Skype users. It is easy to set up conference calls, plus it is one of the most commonly used communication applications on the market. This means it is likely your customers, suppliers, and colleagues will have Skype and will be familiar with how to use it. It is not perfect, and there are competitors (including the hugely popular Facebook-owned WhatsApp), but for the business user, Skype remains popular, effective, and easy to use.
In addition to the apps above, there are many great niche apps that will appeal to some people as well as fantastic apps that you will use, although rarely (scanner apps are a good example). You will probably access the five on this list, however, on a daily basis.
